Kory Keeth

From an early age Kory Keeth knew he wanted to announce rodeos and fortunately he had the gii of gab. AAer graduating high school, he set out to pursue his dream at North Eastern Oklahoma A&M. His announcing career started in the fall of 2012 at the age of 19 announc- ing every calf roping and team roping jack pot there at the college. He then went on to announce the 2013 Southwest- ern Oklahoma State University rodeo which led the way for two more college redoes in central plains region, including Kansas State and Fort Hays. In 2017 Kory began his PRCA announcing career and has

spent the last year traveling the country gaining as much experience as possible. Kory takes pride in knowing as much as possible about every contestant. On top of his announcing career, he is accomplished in other forms of media as well. Kory was the NEO13 News Anchor/Reporter, Worship Leader at Cowboy Capital Fellowship, and has done tv and radio voice overs. It’s obvious when you hear Kory that he enjoys entertaining the crowd!

Garrison Panzer Having grown up in a rodeo family from SW Kansas and heavily involved in Little Britches, Garrison Panzer’s natural skills led him to begin announcing events at a young age. With the help of his Sports Sound Pro and some expert advise from industry leaders, Garrison has acquired a professional inventory of music and mixers to help him be ready for whatever comes his way. Having traveled 3 states to announce diierent rodeos in a given weekend, Garrison has proven capable to handle on the fly demands of being a top notch announcer. His motto is “Be a blessing because you are blessed” and this honest enjoyment of what he does is evident in his work. Garrison enjoys seeing contestants having fun and the crowd enjoying an event which confirms he is doing what he loves.

DAN JAMES

Born in Queensland Australia on a small cattle farm, Dan James first began his lifelong pas- sion with horses at six weeks old. The family milking goat would suffice until he got his first pony. Starting his first colt in his early teens sparked his hunger to understand more about the horse’s thinking patterns. After studying at Longreach Pastoral College, James began traveling the world to gain a better understanding of horses. In 2008, James was recognized as a world class colt trainer when he won the “Way of the Horse” at Equitana Asia Pacific. In 2012, James wowed judges again

Tami Purcell Burklund

Tami Purcell grew up in Dripping Springs, TX just south of Austin where she thought she would become a fireman just like her grandfather. She changed her mind and jumped in feet first into horse racing. Tami tells a story about one horse everyone told her not to ride and not even to get on him. She won that race by four lengths and found out later he was one of the last sons of Go Man Go. She has won every major Quarter Horse race and is

Kip Rosenthal Dr. Kip Rosenthal earned an AAS in early childhood education, a B.S. in psychology, a Master’s Degree in education and psychology, and a PhD in psychology. An avid equestrian, Kip has competed with the USET in a few competitions. She started her business, Benchmark Farms, in 1985 and many of her students won all of the National In 1996, Tami won the AQHA’s Mildred N. Vessels Award for Special Achievement in American Quarter Horse Racing. In 2000 she left racing to join the professional barrel-racing circuit and is a two-time Wrangler Nationals Finals Rodeo Qualifier the only woman to have ever won the All American Futurity, riding a filly name Corona Cash in 1997, and the Champion of Champions in 1996 aboard Dashing Folly. When she retired from racing in 2000, Tami was Quarter Horse racing’s all-time leading female rider of money earners. She rode in 9,475 horse races - winning 2,142 including 87 stakes wins.

Equitation Finals. Some more than once! Several horses she has trained have been Horse of the Year in Green Conformation, Junior Hunter, Junior Jumper, and Amateur Owner Jumper Divisions. Kip has judged all of the National Equitation Finals as well as many of the most prestigious horse shows in the U.S.A.! She has also written ar- ticles for Chronicle Of The Horse, Practical Horse- man and Today’s Equestrian. Kip has been actively involved with United State Equestrian Federation as a member on the Equitation Committee, License Official Committee, Trainers Certification Pro- gram, and the Emerging Athletes Program.

Billy Allen was born into a family of farmers who had working horses, not show horses. He grew up dream- ing of being a world champion roper and he rodeoed for awhile, but in his mid-20’s he started training horses instead. Since he started competing in AQHA, Mr. Allen has earned 11 World Championships in halter, heading, heeling, reining and working cow horse. In 1976, he campaigned 3 different horses to year end high point titles in reining, tied down roping and team roping. In addition to training horses, he established the Billy Allen Feed Company. Mr. Allen is a 30-year breeder and a longtime judge who taught at the judges’ seminars. He is past president of Kansas Quarter Horse Association and will be inducted into the American Quarter Horse Association this March of 2019! Come hear stories from Mr. Allen. Dr. Christopher Blevins has been a part of the Kansas State University Veteri- nary Teaching and Research family for many years. From his Bachelors, Masters and DVM, and currently the Associate Professor of Equine Field Service, Dr. Blevins is known by many. Dr. Blevins’ clinical interests include equine dentist- ry, reproduction and preventative medicine. Coming to EquiFest of Kansas, from the East and our neighboring state, Missouri, Crooked Creek Mule Co. Specializing in jumping mules! These mules jump from a flat footed/planted stance in hand! Not your traditional jumping we think of, when we watch jumpers and their riders. Their mules have performed at the Missouri State Fair, and the Iowa State Fair, as well as several mule jumping competitions throughout the Midwest area. Also, welcome, “Cocoa” their 18 hands draft mule! Cocoa was officially measured as the largest draft mule, currently, at the Missouri State Fair in 30 years! “Baxter” is their 16 time Missouri State Champion in his height division. “Miss Kitty” won the 2017 Ft. Worth Stock Show & Rodeo in mule jump- ing. “Baxter & Miss Kitty” hold multiple state championships including, KY, TN, AR, IL, and MO. Come watch this special demo, only on Friday this year at 4:00 in Domer Arena. Meet & greet will be held prior to their performance in the stall barn, adjacent to the warm up arena and Domer Arena. Following their arena performance come to talk with Jerry & Cyndi in the Workshop Lecture and ask them all about the sport of jumping mules! In 1996, members of the United States Pony Club’s Task Force for the 21st Century identified loss of land and access as the greatest threat to the future of that organization-and to equestrian activities in general. Out of that committee came the founders of ELCR. ELCR’s Strategic Plan is to engage at the local level expanding its existing network of equine land conserva- tion organizations to include more local organizations. Get Involved! Denise is a recently retired attorney with a national reputation on various aspects of the equine and ani- mal veterinary / pharmaceutical industries. She was recognized by Equus Magazine as a National Leader in Equine Law, and has received numerous national and local awards for her legal practice. Her speaking en- gagements include the Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica Educational Series, Merial Pharmaceuticals Cham- pion Series, Zoetis Rabies Panel, AAEP Annual Conference, the AQHA annual meeting, The Hambletonian, Clemson University Trail User Conflict Symposium, Equine Affaires OH and MA, and the American Farriers Annual Conference. She is a past board member of the Kansas Horse Council, a current member of AERC, NATRC, BCHA National, KS and Saddle Ridge Hillsdale Chapters. She is a frequent contributor to Equine Management, Stable Management, and Better Horses Magazines. Denise additionally owns an Arabian, competes in distance events, and drives a Dodge Ram Dually pulling a 35’ living quarter horse trailer which

exceeds 26,000 GVWR-much to her dismay. Hence this presentation. Come to the Workshop Lecture and hear Denise update us on how the ELD mandate can be interpreted in Kansas and its potential impact on the equine enthusiast. Denise Farris, Esq Dr. Grady has been a part of the Kansas State University Veterinary Teaching and Research fabric for many years, from his Master Degree, to his Residency to his DVM and now as a Teaching Clinical Assistant Professor. Teaching 3rd & 4th year veterinary students, Dr. Grady pro- vides knowledge and oversight for both routine and complex reproduc- tive management services for the breeding of mares and stallions. His clinical interests include all aspects of equine reproduction including

mare and stallion breeding soundness examinations, preparing mares for breeding, artificial insemination (fresh-cooled and frozen semen), monitoring high risk pregnancies, stallion collection, and management of the sub-fertile mare and stallion. For EquiFest, Dr. Grady will be sharing his wisdom on Parasitology and Deworming routines for every horse owner to consider!

Jason Grady, DVM

Dr. Andy Hawkins is the Kansas Agriculture Division of Animal Health, Assistant Animal Health Commissioner. He formerly practiced Veterinary Medicine for many years in Wyoming. In this workshop lecture, we will hear from Dr. Hawkins regarding the various tests for EIA and get an update of the Global Link program that works as a 6-month passport. Andy Hawkins, DVM

Dr. Elizabeth James was born and raised in Montana where she grew up rid- ing for fun. From there she went on to get her BS in Animal Science from the University of Nebraska, a Masters degree in Equine Reproduction specializing in Genetics from the University of California at Davis, and most recently a PhD from the University of Kentucky in Experiential Education. Dr. James started her career as an equine instructor at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, WY where she taught Colt Starting and various training classes. From there she taught at the Chris McCarron North American Racing Academy and went on to spend the last ten years as a full-time professor in the Equine Program at the University of Kentucky. Dr. James has more than 15 years of experience helping students achieve their dream careers, coordi- nating internships, and working closely with the equine industry to develop what they are looking for in a workforce. Most recently, Dr. James took over Elizabeth James, PhD

managing the business side of Double Dan Horsemanship and running the Australian Equine Perfor- mance Center in Midway, Kentucky with her husband Dan James. Dr. James has also founded the exciting new Equine Career Coach which offers resources, advice, coaching, and career services specifically for the equine industry. Hear from Elizabeth on topics of “Developing Career Paths in the Equine Industry”, “Coat Color Genetics”- gain an understanding of some basic gene mixes, and “So You Want To Work with Horses”- deciding if and how to pursue a career working with horses can be overwhelming and confusing. From debating if and where to go to college, to knowing what careers are out there, this workshop will help you determine if a career in the equine industry is right for you, develop a career path plan, use your past work experience (no matter what it is) to land your dream career, and provide practical ways to build your resume.

Ben Masters is a filmmaker and conservationist whose work ex- plores some of the most important conservation challenges facing the American West today. Joy received an International Agribusiness degree from Mid America Naza- rene University in 1999. She and her husband, Brian, bought their first hors- es later that year, unaware that one of those horses would soon be serving riders with disabilities. After seeing a therapeutic vaulting demonstration at

EquiFest in 2001 they pursued God’s prompting and began volunteering at a local therapeutic riding cen- ter. Excited to combine her love for horses and passion for people, she and Brian co-founded New Horizon Ranch Therapeutic Riding Center in 2006. Joy became a PATH Int’l Certified Riding Instructor and an EA- GALA Certified Equine Specialist in 2006 . She uses her love for details to develop and oversee the programs at NHR. Joy enjoys the smiles and independence she sees from riders with special needs. Joy currently serves as the Kansas State Chair for PATH International. Kip Rosenthal

Kip Rosenthal is an accomplished equestrian, who has trained and ridden with such familiar names such as George Morris,

Victor Hugo-Vidal, Bert De’Nemethy and more. In her youth, she placed top three at the American Horse Show Association (AHSA) Medal Finals and ASPCA Maclay Finals. Kip also rode her horse Goodboy Dee to the AHSA Horse of the Year Junior Hunter Champion. Kip went on to have great success as a professional rider. As both an accomplished and respected R-rated judge in both Hunter and Hunter Seat Equitation, Kip has judged many of the most prestigious competitions in North America. Her judging includes the Hampton Classic, Lake Placid, Capital Challenge, the NCEA National Championship, the Pessoa/USEF Hunter Sear Medal Finals, Platinum Performance/USEF Show Jumping Talent Search, Pony Finals, and the Maclay Finals. Kip’s was also one of the clinicians at the 2012 EAP National and Regional Level. Kip’s Interest extends to the governance of the sport where she volunteers her time by serving as a member of the USHJA Hunter Seat Equitation Task Force. Kip holds a PhD in clinical counseling psychology and conducts sports psychology seminars throughout the country. Kip has written several books and articles that have appeared in Practical Horseman and The Chronicle of the Horse. Kip also writes “Kip’s Tips” for Today’s Equestrian. In 2012, Kip received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the New England Equitation Championships. Hear Kip’s Wisdom as she shares the following Workshop Lectures: “Our Inner Voice”- How we talk to ourselves…do we focus on when we do things wrong or when we do things correctly? Dr. Tom Tweeten is a scientist with more than 50 years of experience in Analytical Chemistry. He has worked with industrial chemicals and human and animal nutrition to develop chemical testing procedures to insure product quality and integrity. About twenty five years ago Dr. Tweeten and a couple of young entrepreneurs began de- veloping a line of horse care grooming products. Since Dr. Tweeten is a horse owner and show competitor, he has worked to create products that are healthy and beneficial for his horses, while achieving the aesthetic results he wants. Brandy and her husband own and operate Von Holten Ranch (VHR). VHR is an equine trail riding facility that is conveniently located 45 miles from I-70 in Mora, MO. They offer 40 electric sites, 108 stalls, 4 cabins, a guest shower house, a large covered arena, 25 miles of trails an obstacle course and an on-site dump station. VHR hosts a slew of events ranging from horse shows, extreme cowboy races, clin- ics, themed trail rides and more! VHR is a family owned ranch since 1906. Following her arena demo, come to this workshop to learn about Mounted Archery and the Tools that are needed! Brandy is also an author of a series of Childrens’ books and will be reading her sto- ries to children in the Kids’ Corral Daily!

Don’t miss the displays and décor in the stall barn. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to visit! Just up the ramp by the warm up arena and to your right! We have the KSU Veterinarians on site…think you want to be a vet? Feel free to visit! There are some panel pens in the stall barn where meet and greets will be arranged. Watch the schedule which will be posted in front of the pens. For example, there will be some Jumping Mules to check out around 3:00PM on Friday! Come see the Carriage and Driving Society of Greater Kansas City on display with their rigs and their color- ful attire. See everything from a miniature horse to a large almost 20 hand Percheron! Learn more about this fun filled sport. Ask your questions about the various types and sizes of carriages you’ll see on display. Visit with the Top Horse competitors, many who are professional trainers. Ask them questions and learn from their tips and tricks! Don’t miss Duni the amazing Painting Horse and mascot for Shooting Star Equine Rescue. You’ll also find the Breed Showcase Display where we have 10+ breeds you won’t want to miss. Come see them up close and talk to those that know most about the breeds represented! Here you’ll find the Founda- tion Morgan, rare Akal Teke & Caspian, Gypsy Vanner, Friesian, Saddlebred, Missouri Fox Trotter, Gaitway Pleasure Tennessee Walker, BLM Mustang, Miniature Horses, and Gaited Mules! Keep walking down the stall barn aisle to see the Equestrian Drill Teams-Saddle & Sirloin and American Freedom Riders. But, that’s not all! Don’t miss the Kansas Farriers Association Competition with 40 farriers demonstrating their skills on Friday and Saturday. Bleacher seating so sit a spell and warm yourself by their fires! Travis Calderwood & Belle I rode bulls for over 20 years. I own an overhead garage door company and own C4 Ranch where I sell and train horses. I love starting horses and dealing with horses that have some is- sues. I really enjoy working with mustangs, ( and own 4 of them ) the challenge of taking a horse that you can’t even touch to something that wants to please you and wants to learn is what drives me. I have been riding horses ever since I could walk. I have been working with colts since I was 8 years old. My mare Belle is a 9 year old gray mare that has done it all. She is an accomplished cow horse and we compete in the UHCA. I have started doing mounted shooting off of her and plan to compete with her this season. Lee Chapman & Dear John My wife and I live on a farm in Linn County, Kansas and operate a small cow/calf operation. I work in the telecom industry for Heartland Midwest in Olathe, KS. I’m riding Dear John a 7 year old quarter horse (No Guns Please x HH Suzie Tucker). I have and ride several different horses from straight up ranch horses to QuarAbs to perfor- mance horses. I compete in UHCA, EXCA, NRHA, USTPA, and MRHA, AERC and several other organization. I’ve served on the UHCA board for several years and I’m very proud of UHCA. I’ve won or been reserve in several state titles in EXCA and won the Amateur division of UHCA. I’m also member of Kansas Horse Council and Back Country Horseman. Jorge Moser & LK Did compete on the UHCA circuit 0n LK around 2012, 2013,2014 did pretty good most of the time , due to my work schedule haven’t been able to compete on the UHCA circuit and also trying to diversify my dreams as a rider I starter to compete on the IRHA, FQHR,MWRHA, and the ASHA. I think I have done pretty good on all those circuits. I think LK adapts himself to what i point him to . Calli Newman Calli hales from Lenapah Oklahoma. She competes in all as- pects of competition. As a kid, if it involved a horse Calli wanted to learn it!! She raises and trains her own horses and keeps several babies on the ground. She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting while working toward her CPA certification as well. Calli’s accomplishments include 2017 Miss Rodeo Oklahoma. Won 3 world titles on EXCA in two years, Calgary Stampede Cowboy Up Challenge Invitee, and many saddles, buckles and other awards within the rodeo events.

Ashley Purdin & Cinco Out of Louisburg Kansas: Ashley Purdin is Equus Curito Equine Center’s head Trainer. Ashley was reserve champion of Top Horse 2017. Top five in 2018 EXCA Futurity. Top 10 in 2018 EXCA PRO. And reserve champion in both Colt and Open in UHCA in 2018. Ashley pri- marily trains cowboy racing and versatility horses and coaches riders to reach their goals. With over 100 students in several states Ashley teaches weekly lessons and classes in addition to traveling for clinics. Ashley is back for a third time to EquiFest Top Horse this time on a five year old quarter horse gelding named Cinco. She looks forward to the competition this year and always enjoys the challenge of this versatile event! Runt Rageth & Rooster I am Runt Rageth and I live in North Central Missouri in the small town of Harris with my wife Machelle. We own and oper- ate Rageth Versatility Horses where we train and sell various types of horses. I compete in Extreme Cowboy races, ranch rodeos and horse shows. I have been a pickup man at the am- ateur rodeos as well as a competitor for the last twenty years. I enjoy every aspect of the horse industry and any competition that involves horses. Horse: AC Smart G Blue aka Rooster He is a five year old registered quarter horse. He is a very tal- ented young horse with a willing attitude and fun personality. Josh Rushing & Buck I am a 3 time EXCA World Champion. I have multiple UHCA titles in pro and colt divisions. I enjoy training and developing young horses. I love the idea of a practical, versatile, all around type horse. It is for that reason I love competing in events like Top Horse because it highlights multiple disciplines. Alongside my wife Holly Rushing and two kids, Rhyder and Addisen we own and operate Shoe-n-R Horsemanship and Farrier service. I will be riding a horse we call Buck owned by Bob Sullivan. I have had the opportunity to have Buck in training over the last year. Buck and I are the 2019 EXCA World Futurity Champions. He is a really athletic horse. He has a good honest heart and always looking to do his best. I’ve used him primarily in obstacle competitions but he knows what a long day on the ranch is all about and we’ve managed to get to a few cattle sortings with our friends at EC Equine Center. Magen Warlick & Coaly Professional Clinician and Trainer since 2009 Competed in 3 Day Eventing, EXCA, Barrel Racing, Team Roping. Tim Keane is Professor of Landscape Architecture, Distinguished Graduate Faculty, and Director of Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities in the Col- lege of Architecture, Planning, and Design at Kansas State University where he has served since 1984. His research involves the study of rivers, creeks, gullies and erosional/depositional processes. Tim was named “Champion” in the Kansas Cowboy Poetry Contest in 2018, 2017 and in 2016 he was Reserve Champion at the National Cowboy Poetry Rodeo (NCPR). Keane lives with his wife Sharon and a couple of bird dogs in northwest Wabaunsee County, KS. Gary S. Pratt is an American rancher, singer, songwriter, musician and actor. In 2002, he entered the studio for the first time with a catalog of original cow- boy songs and produced his first commercial album titled The Family Ranch. That same year, he was cast in his first film production as a riding outlaw in Black Marshal: The Hunt for Dozier. Gary has gone on to produce five studio albums In 2008, Gary was awarded the prestigious Western Heritage Award for Outstanding New Artist by the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Gary S. Pratt Del Shields is a Western Music Singer, Song Writer, Entertainer and Nashville Recording Artist, as well as an award winning Cowboy Poet. Along with being the Cowboy Singer on the top rated Television Show, Best Of America By Horseback, Del is also the Co-Host of the show which has been airing now into its Eleventh year. He was Trail Boss on a trail ride that lead 46 riders from Mexico to Canada in 2009. Del has recorded five CDs of which he has had a song stay number 2 on the charts for three quarters of a year and two other of the albums in the top ten. His poetry skills have landed him Runner up at the Echoes of the trail Competition and People’s choice award, and Humor Award at the Kansas Cowboy Symposium in Dodge City Ks. Del is regularly featured in numerous Magazines and on Radio shows across the country. Geff Dawson and his wife Dawn bring to you the best of cowboy western entertainment with his original western music and cowboy poetry along with his western comedy. Geff ’s songs and poetry about his western way of life while working on ranches in the Kansas Flint Hills keep you hooked to the end.
