Dr. Elizabeth James was born and raised in Montana where she grew up rid- ing for fun. From there she went on to get her BS in Animal Science from the University of Nebraska, a Masters degree in Equine Reproduction specializing in Genetics from the University of California at Davis, and most recently a PhD from the University of Kentucky in Experiential Education. Dr. James started her career as an equine instructor at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, WY where she taught Colt Starting and various training classes. From there she taught at the Chris McCarron North American Racing Academy and went on to spend the last ten years as a full-time professor in the Equine Program at the University of Kentucky. Dr. James has more than 15 years of experience helping students achieve their dream careers, coordi- nating internships, and working closely with the equine industry to develop what they are looking for in a workforce. Most recently, Dr. James took over Elizabeth James, PhD

managing the business side of Double Dan Horsemanship and running the Australian Equine Perfor- mance Center in Midway, Kentucky with her husband Dan James. Dr. James has also founded the exciting new Equine Career Coach which offers resources, advice, coaching, and career services specifically for the equine industry. Hear from Elizabeth on topics of “Developing Career Paths in the Equine Industry”, “Coat Color Genetics”- gain an understanding of some basic gene mixes, and “So You Want To Work with Horses”- deciding if and how to pursue a career working with horses can be overwhelming and confusing. From debating if and where to go to college, to knowing what careers are out there, this workshop will help you determine if a career in the equine industry is right for you, develop a career path plan, use your past work experience (no matter what it is) to land your dream career, and provide practical ways to build your resume.
