One evening I took some apples down to see him. I petted and brushed him. Talked with him while he ate his apple. I noticed he was swaying a bit on his feet. Then some friends came by and I left him without giving him the second apple. I have always regretted that because it was the last time I saw him alive. He must have walked a few feet from the fence and went down. His owner found him lying there the next morning.

running towards me! Was I seeing things? Apparently after I drove by, Ed and the neighbors drug him by his tail up into the shade. They had to get him out of the ditch and off of the hot wire, along with getting him out of the hot sun. To this day, they don’t know if the chiropractic effects of the tail pulling or the shock did it but after they cooled him down, he jumped up and ran to get his dinner.

I sit here writing this with tears in my eyes. I still miss that old rascal. He came into my life for what seemed like a short time. Actually, it was six years! I wished many times he was my own. But I know I gave him many hours of happiness. And if we had not taken care of him like we did, his life would have been much shorter. I know mine is better for loving him.
